4th of July - 2nd half of the day

I just tried to upload a movie of one of the "jousts", but after an hour it still didn't load, so here are a couple of stills. You won't get the full flavor of the event, but you'll get the idea. The rules were they had to stay within the floats and keep one foot on top of the canoe. Many didn't make it farther than that!

Remember the bird rehabilitator/hot tub on the roof/Taekwondo guy? Here is his pet hawk he brought to the Canoe Joust. The bird was the runt and was culled by the mother so the bird man (David) raised him. The bird just sat calmly on his perch while people stopped, stared, photographed and asked questions.

This is the Kelsey Dock Uplands - the concert pavilion, town event spot and ferry terminal. (The locals call it "The Potato Chip"). The whole area is very pretty and beautifully maintained. They're getting ready for the Free Community Dinner held last night from 5 - 7 followed by the bonfire/marshmallow roast.

The crowds waiting for dinner. They served grilled hot dogs or hamburgers, steamed vegetables (not overdone!), a rice medley, chips, chocolate chip cookies, and lemonade. Other beverages were BYO.
